Revealed: The anti-Semite who confronted Helen Mirren in the street and called her an ‘evil Zionist b****’

The Daily Mail can reveal he is the anti-Semitic far-left activist who abused national treasure Dame Helen Mirren on the street.
Corbynista Tom Carroll, from north London, has a history of posting malicious anti-Semitic material online and was launching into lengthy tirades in the capital, calling Dame Helen and her husband Taylor Hackford an “evil Zionist bitch”.
The 80-year-old Oscar-winning actress has long been vocal in her support for Israel and has voiced her opposition to cultural boycotts of the country.
The ugly incident, first captured in an online clip posted by an Instagram account called Anti-Fascist Action UK, shows Dame Helen being approached while walking down the street with her husband Taylor Hackford.
The video was first published in a longer form in November 2025 and exclusively by the account @antifascistactionuk.
On Wednesday, the same account reposted the clip, confirming that the Instagram account operator shot the video.
The Daily Mail found that the Instagram account was linked to a YouTube and PayPal account run by Carroll, who was tagged in an Instagram post linking himself to the @antifascistactionuk account.

A man resembling Carroll has been included in a rogues gallery of pro-Palestinian activists wanted by the Metropolitan Police following a demonstration in central London in 2023 where he was photographed shouting loudly.
At the time, in November 2023, a month after Hamas’ bloody attacks on 7 October and Israel’s violent response, Superintendent Paul Trevers said: ‘We know that the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to have a significant impact on communities in London and we will do all we can to keep people safe.
‘Our officers continue to meet regularly with members of the capital’s Jewish and Muslim communities to provide reassurance and respond to any concerns they may have.
‘We have also made clear that crimes such as hate crime and support for banned organizations will not be tolerated and we continue to run a special police operation to investigate these crimes and identify offenders.’
Carroll was wanted in connection with a brutal attack on an 84-year-old woman as she returned from a violent far-Left protest at Shoreditch High Street station in east London in 2018.
Five years later, in 2023, he surrendered to police, pleading not guilty, but was sentenced to 12 months probation and 200 hours of community service for the lesser offense of threatening behavior.
Since then, his Instagram account has been full of anti-Semitic tropes and conspiracy theories, such as suggesting that the attack on Bondi Beach was a ‘false flag’ or ‘fake’.
He republished neo-Nazi propaganda claiming that Jews declared war on Germany and were responsible for World War II, praised Adolf Hitler, and suggested that Anne Frank’s diary was a fabrication.

How should public figures respond to personal harassment regarding their views on Israel and Palestine?

Dame Helen, who was photographed with her husband in January, has long been outspoken in her support for Israel and has voiced her opposition to cultural boycotts of the country.
Other memes she reposted include one that stated: ‘It’s okay to be anti-Semitic.’

Thursday Murder Club star Dame Helen initially appeared calm and polite when approached, smiling as she greeted the man and asked if he was okay.
But the encounter quickly escalated when the stranger launched into an abusive tirade about the actress’ support for Israel.
He said: ‘There is also Helen Mirren, who openly says she is a Zionist. You said that Israel must exist forever because of the Holocaust. And he was very happy that the Palestinian homes were gone.
‘You’re an evil Zionist bitch. What about you [Mr Hackford] Fuck you too.’
As the situation became increasingly hostile, Mr Hackford stepped in and repeatedly told the man to “fuck off” and leave them alone.
Dame Helen has long been vocal about her support for Israel and her opposition to cultural boycotts of the country.
Carroll had previously republished neo-Nazi propaganda claiming that Jews declared war on Germany and were responsible for World War II.
Just last month, he signed an open letter supporting Israel’s entry into the Eurovision Song Contest, alongside stars including Amy Schumer, Mila Kunis, Sharon Osbourne and Boy George.
The actress has also portrayed many important Jewish figures on the big screen, such as Maria Altmann in Woman In Gold and former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir in the 2023 film Golda.
Speaking previously about Israel, Dame Helen said: ‘I believe in Israel, I believe in the existence of Israel, and I believe that Israel must forever move forward into the future… I believe in Israel because of the Holocaust.’
The comments were made during an interview with Israel’s Channel 12 in 2023 while promoting Golda, which focuses on Meir’s leadership during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
Dame Helen also revealed that due to Israel’s controversial position on the world stage, some people tried to persuade her not to take on the role.
However, he defended his decision by saying, ‘I met such extraordinary people in Israel.’
He added: ‘I know that even in Israel there is a foundation, a foundation of deep intelligence, thoughtfulness, devotion and poetry that is very, very special.’
The actress first visited Israel in 1967, shortly after the Six-Day War; He volunteered at Kibbutz HaOn near the Sea of Galilee and hitchhiked across the country.
He has also spoken out strongly against cultural boycotts of Israel, arguing that abandoning Israeli artists would be counterproductive.
Although Dame Helen supports Israel’s right to exist, she also stated that she does not support every action of the Israeli government and expressed her concerns about the political direction of the country.
Representatives of Carroll, the Metropolitan Police and Dame Helen have been contacted.
