New weather maps show snow will fall in 28 counties in England next week. WXCharts predicts winter weather will arrive on February 6th.
Snow will be heaviest in Powys, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. There will also be snow in Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. Some snow will fall in Norfolk, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham, Greater Manchester, North Yorkshire, Borders, Edinburgh, Fife, Perth and Kinross, Angus, Aberdeenshire, Moray and the Highlands. The coldest area will be between 0C and -3C in central Scotland (Grampians, Aberdeen, Inverness). Temperatures will be between 0C and 3C in northern Scotland, southern Scotland, northern England, the Midlands, East Anglia and Wales. In the south of England and Northern Ireland, the temperature will be between 2C and 7C.
The Met Office said of the period: “Frontal systems over the Atlantic, driven by a southerly jet stream, will likely approach the UK at times, but will tend to stall when they encounter a high-pressure blocking area to the north and north-east.
“This will cause more rain to fall at times, falling on areas already susceptible to flooding. “As these bands of rain spread northwards, some snow will be possible on higher ground in northern England and Scotland, which will experience colder weather.
“A slight shift of these low pressure areas to the south is expected in the second week of February, which could cause colder air to spread across at least the northern UK and increase the risk of wintry danger for a period.”
Today: A very cloudy day with rain coming out for most people. Some of the rain may be showery and heavy across Wales and the west. Rain will move eastward throughout the day, then leave clear or even sunny skies in the west.
Tonight: Clouds and rain continue to move east, but it remains cloudy for most. Open spells to the west give way to regions of frost and fog. The cloud then moves back to the southwest.
Monday: It’s been a cloudy start to the week for many, with light rain and showers. Initially the southwest is dry, but later more persistent rains follow.
Outlook from Tuesday to Thursday: Unrest continues due to heavy rains or prolonged heavy rains affecting most regions and strong winds from time to time. Snow continues in the northern hills. Temperatures are below average in the north.
