Man arrested in connection with fire at LGBTQ+ nightclub near Milton Keynes | UK news

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a fire at an LGBTQ+ nightclub, police said.
Officers urged them not to speculate as to why the fire may have started at Pink Punters in Fenny Stratford, near Milton Keynes, saying it was too early to tell. After the fire, the club owner said he was relieved that no one was injured and promised that the club would reopen.
Frank McMahon, whose family has run Pink Punters for more than 25 years, said: “Whilst I am devastated to say the building has been completely destroyed, I am deeply relieved, grateful and proud to confirm that no staff or customers were harmed and everyone returned home safely.”
Expressing her heartbreak, she added: “Pink Punters has always been about people, not just bricks and mortar. The building may be gone but the family, memories, spirit and love remain. And let me make it clear: Pink Punters will be back.”
Thames Valley police received reports of the fire at 2am on Sunday. Officers said several partygoers and residents in the Watling Street area were safely evacuated by staff.
In the footage, flames on the top floor of the building can be seen rising above the roof. Officers and Buckinghamshire fire and rescue crews attended and some nearby roads were closed. The fire department said there were 12 fire crews in the area where the fire was most intense.
Police said a 51-year-old man from Buckinghamshire was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody.
Pink Punters has been in business for over twenty years and offers dance floors, an outdoor bar and karaoke.
Chief Supt Emma Baillie, commanding officer at Milton Keynes, said: “This was a significant fire requiring the evacuation of a large number of people. Fortunately no one was injured and staff at the venue worked quickly and effectively to evacuate everyone safely. At this time, it is too early to comment on any specific cause of this incident and we respectfully ask people not to speculate.”
