Police appeal for help after Richard Wills found shot dead in Ouyen, Victoria

Missing persons detectives are appealing for the public’s assistance in their investigation into the suspicious shooting death of Richard Wills.

Mr Wills was last seen alive at around 8am on Easter Sunday as he left his home in the small Victorian town of Ouyen on Hughs Street.

Police were told Mr Wills had gone about his normal routine to work at his rural property on the Mallee Highway.

Mr Wills did not return home for lunch, causing his family to spend the rest of the day searching the property.

His wife, Donna, reported him missing Monday morning.

Police found Mr Will’s body buried in a shallow grave during an assisted search of rural land at around 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Mr. Wills was fatally shot.

Missing persons detective senior sergeant Steve Trewavas said Mr Will’s death was clearly a “foul game” and urged anyone with information about what happened to come forward.

“Unfortunately, Richard clearly fell foul of it,” he said.

“What is still unclear is exactly who was involved and why.

“We would very much like to speak to anyone who has information about the circumstances leading to his death and who those responsible are.

“We hope this call will lead to someone coming forward and doing the right thing – this can be done anonymously – so we can hold those responsible to account.”

Anyone who saw Richard on Easter Sunday or has any information about his death is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
