Delhi Records Day Temperatures Below Normal
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Delhi on Sunday was recorded at 17.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below the seasonal average. The minimum temperature settled at 7.4 degrees Celsius, about 0.5 degrees above normal.
IMD data showed that Ridge district recorded a minimum temperature of 8.9 degrees Celsius, followed by 7.6 degrees in Lodhi Road, 7.4 degrees in Safdarjung, 6.8 degrees in Palam and 6.6 degrees in Ayanagar.
Delhi Cold Wave Likely to Continue Till January 6
On the maximum temperature front, the Ridge recorded 17.8 degrees Celsius, while Lodhi Road recorded 17 degrees Celsius. Ayanagar and Palam reported maximum temperature of 16.7 degrees and 16.3 degrees Celsius respectively.
IMD predicts cold wave conditions at isolated places in Delhi till January 6.
Air Quality Still ‘Very Poor’ in Delhi
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, Delhi’s air quality remained a cause for concern; The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 307 at 16:00, falling into the ‘very poor’ category.
The relative humidity level was 73 percent at 17.30.
Dense Fog and Cold Wave Conditions in Rajasthan
Moderate to dense fog was observed at many places in Rajasthan during the morning hours. Fatehpur in Sikar district recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 1.1 degrees Celsius.
Sirohi, Pali and Churu recorded a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius each. While Vanasthali recorded the lowest temperature at 4 degrees Celsius, Lunkaransar and Sikar recorded 2.8 degrees and 2.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
The minimum temperature in the state capital Jaipur was recorded at 8.8 degrees Celsius. Cold wave conditions were observed at isolated places in eastern Rajasthan, the meteorological office said.
Subzero Temperatures Continue in Kashmir
Kashmir continued to be in the grip of intense cold during Chilla-e-Kalan, which was the harshest winter period of 40 days. The minimum temperature in Srinagar dropped to minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, down from minus 1.5 degrees Celsius the previous night.
Gulmarg, a popular ski resort, remained the coldest place with temperatures dropping to minus 6.5 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5 degrees Celsius.
Freezing conditions were also reported in other areas in the valley; Minus 4 degrees Celsius was recorded in Qazigund, minus 2.5 degrees Celsius in Kupwara and minus 1.6 degrees Celsius in Kokernag.
Snow is Likely to Fall in the High Regions of the Northern States
IMD predicts light rain or snowfall at isolated places in northern and central parts of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on January 5 and 6. Rain or snow is also expected in isolated places of Uttarakhand on January 6 and frost is expected in some areas.
Temperature Trends in Rest of India
Minimum temperatures are likely to drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in parts of Central and Eastern India in the next three days and no significant change is expected for the next four days, the meteorological office said.
Meanwhile, Gujarat is expected to see a gradual increase in minimum temperatures over the next five days. No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected in the remaining parts of the country.
