Iran’s president sends message to people of the United States

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized the US war against his country in an open letter to the US people on Wednesday, saying it was a ridiculous operation that was costly for their nation.
In his message, the President said, “Today, the world is at a crossroads. Moving down the path of conflict is more costly and futile than ever.” he wrote.
Iran had seen many aggressors throughout its history: “While Iran was resilient, honorable and proud, all that remained of them were tarnished names in history,” Pezeshkian wrote.
He wrote that the choice between war and peace will shape the future of all generations.
By Iranian standards, an open letter to the US people is highly unusual. Observers therefore see this as Iran’s attempt to convince the US public that its government’s decision was wrong and thus indirectly force a ceasefire.
The war initiated by Israel and the USA is now in its fifth week.
On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said Iran wants a ceasefire. An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman immediately denied this. State broadcaster IRIB quoted Esmail Baghaei as saying that Trump’s statements were false and unfounded.
Trump attributed his ceasefire request to Iran’s “New Regime President.” It was not clear who exactly he meant by this.
Trump will address the nation on Wednesday evening. He gave Iran an ultimatum that expired on the evening of April 6. By then, the country will reopen shipping via the Strait of Hormuz, which is important for oil transportation.
Ship transportation through the strait has almost come to a halt since Israel and the United States started war on February 28.
