Tata Sierra EV launched with QWD, fast charging and lifetime battery warranty; Check price, range and key features

Tata Motors has launched the Sierra EV in India, marking the return of one of the most recognizable nameplates in the country’s automotive history; this time as an all-electric SUV packed with technology that the company says has set multiple segment and national firsts.

Here’s a detailed look at everything the Sierra EV brings to the table.

Tata Sierra EV: Price

Tata Motors has not announced official pricing for the Sierra EV at the time of writing. Industry reports expect the Sierra EV to be generally priced in the range of Rs 20 lakh to Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on its position above the Nexon EV and next to the Harrier EV, with the top-end QWD dual-motor variant likely to be at the upper end of this band. Official prices are expected to be confirmed by Tata Motors soon.

Tata Sierra EV: Powertrain and performance

The Sierra EV is powered by a dual-motor setup that produces 504 Nm of torque. Tata calls the system QWD or All-Wheel Drive, which it describes as an optional four-wheel drive system that can be engaged depending on driving conditions.
In Boost Mode, the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.Tata Sierra EV: Charging speed and range

The Sierra EV supports fast charging up to 1.6C and Tata says it can add around 263km of range in 15 minutes.

The company did not disclose the exact battery capacity or certified range figure in the press material provided, but its fast charging feature places it among the faster charging EVs currently available in India.

Tata Sierra EV: Battery warranty

Tata offers what it calls a Lifetime High Voltage Battery Warranty on the Sierra EV. In practice, this covers a period of 15 years from the date of initial registration, with no mileage limit.

The warranty is only valid for vehicles registered in the name of private individuals or under the company’s privileged vehicle program for employees. It does not transfer if the vehicle is sold to a third party.

Tata Sierra EV: Off-road modes and off-road capability

The Sierra EV comes with six terrain modes: Normal, Grass/Snow, Mud Tracks/Gravel, Sand, Rock Crawl, and Custom. The system adjusts the vehicle’s behavior according to the selected mode to maintain traction and stability on changing surfaces.

Additional off-road-focused features include Off-Road Assist, which keeps speeds as low as 5 km/h so the driver can focus on steering without managing the throttle, and Transparency Mode, which projects an image of the terrain beneath the vehicle onto the infotainment screen.

Tata Sierra EV: Key features list

The Sierra EV offers a variety of features that Tata claims are firsts in the segment or in India.

DrivePay is described as India’s first in-car UPI payment system, allowing users to pay for recharge, FASTag and purchases on e-commerce platforms directly from the screen or via voice commands. Car payment support is also being introduced to food and beverage sales points.

AirConsole turns the infotainment screen, where smartphones are used as control devices, into a multiplayer game console. Tata says this is a first for any vehicle sold in India.

Intelligent Adaptive Route Planner brings EV-specific navigation to Android Auto, predicting battery levels at the destination, recommending charging stops, and alerting the driver if additional charging may be needed en route. Tata says this is the first such system available on Android Auto in India.

Dolby Atmos on Apple CarPlay is also available for the first time in an Indian vehicle, paired with a 12-speaker JBL audio setup that includes a subwoofer and SonicShaft Soundbar.

Tata Sierra EV: Cabin and infotainment system

The Sierra EV uses what Tata calls the HorizonView Triple Display setup, consisting of a 12.3-inch center touchscreen, a 12.3-inch passenger display and a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel.

The system runs on TiDAL 2.0, Tata’s software-defined vehicle platform built on Acti. house+architecture. It supports over-the-air updates for up to 10 ECUs, has 5G connectivity via iRA, and provides access to over 70 connected apps.

Theater Pro mode allows passengers to use the personal display with wireless headphones for individual content playback.

IRA. The home connected car app offers more than 70 features, including remote vehicle monitoring, smart alerts and what Tata describes as the top five connected functions in the industry.

Tata Sierra EV: ADAS and safety technology

The Sierra EV comes with an L2+ ADAS package that covers 22 functions, including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and Intelligent Speed Assist.

The 540-degree Surround View System uses high-resolution cameras and includes an automatically activated adaptive front and rear turnaround camera. With four display modes and 19 configurable visual elements, the HypAR head-up display projects navigation and driving data onto the windshield using augmented reality.

The e-Valet package covers 16 functions, including Automatic Parking Assist, Remote Parking, Summoning and Reverse Assist for navigating tight spaces.

Tata Sierra EV: Boot space and practicality

Luggage capacity is 622 liters, and when the rear seats are folded, this capacity increases to 1,257 liters. Tata says the boot opening has a low loading lip and a wide, square gap designed for easy loading of luggage and bulky items.

Tata Sierra EV: Cabin space and comfort

The Sierra EV is built on a 2,730 mm wheelbase. Second-row legroom is listed at 973mm with a double legroom of 900mm. Shoulder room is 1,451 mm in the front row and 1,415 mm in the rear, with a 316 mm pass between the second-row seats.

The H-point of the driver’s seat is positioned at 342mm, which Tata claims is the highest point in the segment, and is paired with an eye point of 1,344mm for high views of the road.

The suspension setup uses frequency-dependent damping and adjusts stiffness according to road conditions to balance ride comfort with handling stability.

The PanoraMax panoramic sunroof measures 1,525 mm x 925 mm, which Tata says is the largest in its segment.

Comfort additions include a thigh support extender on the front seats, designed to reduce fatigue on long trips.

Access to the vehicle can be managed via smartphone using Ultra Wideband technology, NFC card or a new digital key fob.

Tata Sierra EV: Competitors
The Sierra EV enters a segment that has become very competitive in the past year.

Its most direct rivals are the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e; both are built on Mahindra’s INGLO electric platform and bring strong performance figures, large batteries and a similarly high-tech cabin approach to the table. In particular, the BE 6 seems to be the Sierra EV’s closest challenger in the market with its AWD version and aggressive pricing.

Hyundai Creta Electric and Kia EV6 are also in the same broad evaluation group as the MG ZS EV. BYD Atto 3 and BYD Seal compete on value and range. At the upper end of the Sierra EV’s expected price range, the Volvo EX30 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 will attract buyers looking for a premium electric SUV with established brand credentials.

Tata’s own Harrier EV is another vehicle worth watching. Depending on the final Sierra EV pricing and variant structure, the two could cannibalize each other’s buyer base to some extent, given that both target a similar buyer profile in the Tata lineup.
