Delroy Lindo was in bed when he found out he had received his first Oscar nomination

British actor Delroy Lindo said he was “in bed” when his son called him and told him he had been nominated for his first Oscar.

The 73-year-old London-born star told the BBC’s Colin Patterson that he “never” gave up hope of being nominated for an Academy Award.

Lindo earned a surprise nomination for best supporting actor for his role in the Vampire horror movie Sinners.

Co-star Wunni Mosaku and Lindo are the only two British actors nominated this year, carrying Britain’s hopes into next month’s ceremony.
