AI giant Anthropic confidentially files for US IPO as investors bet big on AI future

AI giant Anthropic said on Monday it has confidentially filed for an initial public offering in the United States, setting up what could be a watershed moment for Wall Street’s AI craze.
The move poses a high-stakes test of whether investor appetite for the AI revolution that is reshaping white-collar work around the world will match the high expectations surrounding the emerging sector.
Anthropic did not disclose the size or terms of the offer. It most recently surpassed rival OpenAI by raising $65 billion in late May at a post-money valuation of $965 billion.
The significant step towards listing comes on the heels of SpaceX’s mega IPO, which is heading towards rewriting the record books, with the Elon Musk-led company pursuing a $75 billion offering at a $1.75 trillion valuation.
Rivals OpenAI and Anthropic have become the face of the AI boom that is redrawing corporate strategies, sparking a global arms race for computing power and talent, and transforming AI-related companies into some of the market’s most valuable firms.
Anthropic’s valuation has more than doubled from $380 billion in February, when it raised $30 billion in a financing round.
OpenAI is preparing to confidentially file for a U.S. IPO in the coming weeks, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters in late May, adding to a wave of blockbuster listings expected next year.
