Allies of Sir Keir Starmer have blamed Donald Trump for the explosion in the Prime Minister’s office, claiming it was due to the global chaos triggered by his presidency. The extraordinary allegations emerged amid a bitter Labor civil war following the dramatic unraveling of Sir Keir’s leadership; Furious loyalists accused senior cabinet figures of treason, sabotage and backdoor plotting for more than a year.

Bloomberg’s Alex Wickham said the Prime Minister’s allies believed the global turmoil triggered by Mr Trump’s return to the White House had left Sir Keir unable to focus on domestic priorities, fatally weakening his grip on power. A source close to the Prime Minister reportedly said Mr Trump was “solely responsible” for the failure of the Starmer project and suggested the geopolitical shocks following his election meant Downing Street was consumed by international crises rather than the concerns of voters at home.

The source insisted that events would have turned out “completely differently”, claiming Labor would have avoided disaster if the Democrats had remained in power in Washington.

They also reportedly slammed Sir Keir’s decision to appoint Peter Mandelson to a senior role as his “worst mistake ever”. Bloomberg The investigation into Labor leaders triggered a new period of instability from which the Government “never recovered”.

The statements came as loyalists launched fierce attacks on senior Labor figures accused of orchestrating a coordinated campaign from within the government against the Prime Minister.

Ed Miliband and Wes Streeting have been accused by Starmer supporters of spending the last year destabilizing the administration while publicly serving in cabinet.

Mr Miliband was accused of helping organize internal pressure to appoint Andy Burnham as Prime Minister; some Labor figures compared the alleged maneuver to the controversial decision to defeat his brother David Miliband in the 2010 Labor leadership contest.

Mr Burnham, Mr Miliband and Mr Streeting’s allies have denied claims they were acting in their own self-interest, arguing they were trying to save Labor from electoral destruction under Sir Keir’s leadership and prevent Nigel Farage from coming to power.

But the accusations within the Labor Party grew increasingly wild; A senior figure reportedly expressed disbelief that the party was dragged into “factionalism, kingship and collapse” so quickly after entering government.

Others on the Labor right have reportedly accused Sir Keir’s concessions during the welfare rebellion of emboldening domestic dissidents and hastening the collapse of his authority.

One ally compared Labor’s rebel MPs to “100 Liz Trusses” sitting on the backbenches, at a time when fears are growing in financial markets that a more left-wing successor could emerge.

Investors are reportedly spooked by growing expectations that Mr Burnham could soon return to power, with the Mayor of Greater Manchester’s supporters claiming Burnham could become Prime Minister at the Labor Party conference in September.

Meanwhile, some on the Labor left have lashed out at Chancellor Rachel Reeves, with a senior source reportedly claiming history will judge her harshly for the collapse of the government.
