Gallagher taps pro athletes for summer insurance internships

The insurance company Gallagher is a new kind of summer interns: touches professional athletes.

Last year, the insurance giant extended the internship program to offer positions to professional athletes and gave them a way to prepare for life after sports. In contrast, Gallagher discovered that the stars tend to shine from the field.

“They know how much work is like, and how long this path has been to be successful,” Gallagher’s Marketing Manager Chris Mead said. He said. “They know what it’s like to be part of a team and how to lead.”

This year, the Gallagher program opened the National Women’s Football League to eight members of Chicago Stars. Leilanni Nesbeth and Chardonnay Curran, an existing and former midfielder of the team, respectively, jumped for an internship opportunity.

In an interview with CNBC, Nesbeth said, “It means a lot for us to put our feet in the door,” Nesbeth said.

“I never had a job except football, Cur Curran said. “Being a professional footballer was my first career and I have never been in an institutional environment.”

In 2024, Gallagher started a partnership trainee program for athletes and worked as a pilot with four players from NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.

More than six weeks, participants gain work experience, professional skill development and career mentoring, while at the same time learning the entrances and exits of insurance intermediary, sales and corporate culture.

Gallagher, the sponsor of the Chicago NWSL team, adapts the internship program to meet challenging programs.

This support is very important for many. Professional sports careers may be short and unpredictable, and earnings may change to a great extent. According to the League, the average NWSL salary is about $ 125,000 per season.

Gallagher’s aim is to prepare athletes for the next step.

“We didn’t know anything about the insurance, and now I probably have your mind about RPS,” he joked, referring to an industry term, which means “risk placement services”.

For Curran, he was about to change previously thought -out concepts about the insurance industry.

“After doing an internship, everything I thought about insurance was exactly the opposite,” he said.

Mead said Gallagher hired some athlete trainees as an employee when their play careers are finished.

He said that he employed a professional rugbi player, one of the company’s star sellers in Europe.

“There is a time when the bulb is out, and how to celebrate a win after a sale, they see how a win is different from celebrating a win or doing something great for a customer.”
