Poll of the day: Do you support Keir Starmer’s welfare reform plans?

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is preparing for a political storm on the proposed changes in the welfare system of the UK, as it stands out with controversial reforms that will overhaul disability payments.

In accordance with new plans, access to personal independence payments (PIP) sees the equivalent of a Leicester -sized city, which will be tightened to reduce what ministers say that there is an unsustainable growth in the system, and is now added to new claims every year.

The supporters of reforms, including Starmer himself, argue that the welfare system is “broken” and needs an urgent change to better support people who want to stay sustainable and return to work.

However, more than 100 workers’ deputies and at least one dozen ministers, including critics, warn that changes will damage disproportionate people and the most vulnerable people.

Independent Readers warned that a human cost would “break people”, leave carers “poor, and that many people were ignored.

The proposed legislation is expected to face a great rebellion when it starts to vote in Parliament next week.
