Milano Cortina comes to an end; Cooper Woods, Danielle Scott to carry flag for Australia in Verona
There’s no doubt that Milano Cortina 2026 is a fantastic Olympics, but some things will always stick with you more than others.
Without a doubt, one of the most memorable moments was Lindsey Vonn’s accident. I’ve never experienced anything like it, as a collective gasp echoed through the media center.
There was also the devastation of watching Jakara Anthony slip off the course to deny her back-to-back gold medals in the women’s emperors, only to surpass her three days later to win gold in the double emperors.
But if we’re talking highlights, I can’t leave out Cooper Woods’ men’s gold medal.

Milano Cortina is my first Olympics Sydney Morning Herald And Ageand there’s something special about watching someone win gold in person for the first time.
As I stood in the mixed zone, waiting for Woods’ music to hit the big screen, I was with his aunt, who works as a reporter for another Australian media outlet. The moment his score came near number 1 is a moment I will never forget for the rest of my life.

What makes this even better is that Woods is a great guy. While having a team dinner in Livigno last night, Woods walked into the restaurant.
Instead of bowing his head and ignoring us, he came over to say hello, recognizing the Australian reporters and TV crew who had interviewed him many times over the past two weeks.
He hugged us all and thanked us for everything we did during the Olympics. Cooper Woods is a good guy and Olympic gold medalist.
