“All these difficulties that remind you how limited and precious every moment of this life we live is, make you realize that you cannot accept anything as it is,” Ivanka said. he said. “As you move through them and with God’s permission, you can do that and we were so lucky that day, it was a failed attempt to take his life, it didn’t happen, you’re committed again to love and connection and realizing how short our time on this Earth is and how you have to value it.”
Bartlett noted that Ivanka’s experience is largely irrelevant because most people cannot understand what it is like for others to want a parent dead.
“I wonder how that doesn’t make you negative towards the world?” he asked.
“Because I don’t allow it,” he replied.
“Even for the person who shot at your father?” followed.
“There’s a lot of sickness out there, and I think it’s a hard thing to forgive in that respect,” he said.

Ivanka added: “It was a blessing that he was alive, so I could look at what happened and I could rightfully be traumatized by that experience and no one could really argue with that, but you have to get through it and on the other side is the fact that he’s not dead, he’s with us today. It’s an extraordinary blessing for my father to be alive and for me as his daughter. You have a choice in life, only in how you respond.”
Ivanka said she chose gratitude because her father survived. But Ivanka admitted that seeing that moment repeated on the news “wasn’t the easiest thing.”
He said it was a “miracle” and a “blessing” that his father survived the attempt and that he chose to focus on that.
