Donald Trump informed Pam Bondi as she drove to the Supreme Court on Wednesday that her days as attorney general were over.
‘I think it’s time,’ Trump tells Bondi from The Wall Street Journal reported.
The president decided to fire him earlier this week. Bondi, 60, had been on the job for 14 months; this was the shortest tenure for a confirmed attorney general since 1975. Bondi then asked if he could stay in office until the summer, but Trump said no.
The two had been discussing his departure since roughly January, a person familiar with the matter told the Journal.
Trump was reportedly unhappy with Bondi’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and the lack of progress in investigations of his perceived political enemies, such as former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. It’s unclear whether Bondi was referring to actions she couldn’t legally perform. The Justice Department and the White House, where Bondi will be working for the month, did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment.

Ranking member Robert Garcia said Thursday that Bondi “cannot evade responsibility and remains legally obligated to appear before our Committee under oath.” “He must be held accountable for his mishandling of the Epstein files and the special treatment he gave Ghislaine Maxwell.”
