Queensland Police charge two men, seize weapon over fatal Bruce Highway crash at Burpengary
Two men have been charged with a number of offenses including possession of a firearm as the investigation continues into a fatal crash on the Bruce Highway in Burpengary last week.
In the accident, 26-year-old Andre Roberts, from Brisbane, who was traveling on the highway, died when his car was hit by an allegedly stolen truck heading south on the wrong side of the highway at around 22.30 on Tuesday.
In the footage, other vehicles can be seen driving behind the truck at high speed, also on the wrong side. The Hino flatbed truck crashed into the Honda Accord driven by Roberts, who was traveling in the correct lane, and burst into flames, tragically killing him instantly.
The 46-year-old man driving the Hino remains in critical condition in hospital.
On Sunday, police also confirmed that the Hino truck, initially believed to be an Isuzu, was carrying fake license plates belonging to a different vehicle.
Police said as part of the investigation, detectives from the Moreton District Criminal Investigation Branch and Homicide Investigation Unit searched a property in Redcliffe on Friday, where they found stolen property and a firearm attached to the stolen truck.
“Two men, aged 49 and 36, both from Redcliffe, have been charged with trespassing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and weapons offences, as well as assisting police with their investigations,” they said in a statement.
“They are expected to appear at Redcliffe Magistrates Court on March 16, 2026 and continue to assist police with their investigations.
“Detectives have located all vehicles involved and a number of individuals are assisting police with investigations.”
The vehicle following Hino had already been identified as a Ford Ranger. He was at a workplace on Magnesium Street in Narangba around 5.30pm on Wednesday.
A Narangba man was arrested that day in connection with the discovery.
Following the devastating crash, parts of the highway were closed until 5am on Wednesday.
