Authorities have identified Jashanpreet Singh as the driver responsible for a fatal crash involving eight vehicles, including four semi-trucks, in Ontario. Jashanpreet Singh, 21, of Yuba City, was held at the West Valley Detention Center. He is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs.

Why was Jashanpreet Singh arrested?

Jashanpreet Singh reportedly crashed his truck into slow-moving vehicles stuck in traffic on the westbound Highway 10. He reportedly used drugs and now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs.

An eyewitness who was standing near a parking lot overlooking the 10 Freeway at the time of the incident said the crash sounded like a huge explosion as he recalled a red truck allegedly driven by Singh speeding down the freeway before the crash, according to NBC Los Angeles. Describing the fear, Jason Calmelat said, “He didn’t stop. He didn’t swing. He didn’t make any maneuvers. He went straight in.”

“The truck rolled over and veered to the right towards the embankment, and I saw the driver of the truck jump out because he was burned,” Calmelat said. The identities of the three people who died in the accident could not be determined. Four people, including Singh, and a mechanic who was helping to change tires on the side of the highway at the time of the accident were also injured.ALSO READ: A mysterious ‘hidden second moon’ has been orbiting Earth for 60 years: Scientists are now stunned by this unique discovery

Who is Jashanpreet Singh?

As Jashanpreet Singh is booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, many are wondering if she is a U.S. citizen. Many users online asked questions about Singh’s background, noting that the crash in California occurred just months after a similar crash in Florida involving Indian truck driver Harjinder Singh.

“We want to know: Is Jashanpreet Singh a U.S. citizen or permanent resident? Does she speak English fluently? Does she have a California resident CDL, a non-resident CDL, or no CDL at all?” A post was read on X. Authorities told local media outlet KTLA that Jashanpreet Singh is a 21-year-old from Yuba City, California. They didn’t say anything about his citizenship. Grok responded to a person who asked if Singh was an American citizen: “There are no public records or reports confirming Jashanpreet Singh’s citizenship status. News outlets describe her as a 21-year-old from Yuba City, California, but immigration details have not been released during the ongoing investigation. Until authorities release more information, assumptions based on her name alone are unreliable.”

Fox News’ Bill Melugin claimed that Singh was an ‘Indian illegal alien’ who was captured and released at the California border by the Joe Biden administration in 2022. “According to multiple ICE sources, semi-truck driver Jashanpreet Singh, who is suspected of killing three people in a DUI crash on Highway 10 in Ontario, CA yesterday, is an Indian illegal alien who was captured and released at the California border by the Biden admin in March 2022. His DHS photo has been attached via federal sources,” he wrote.

“ICE has reportedly requested custody of Singh from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, where he is being detained on suspicion of DUI causing great bodily injury and aggravated vehicular manslaughter. He has not yet been formally charged,” he added.
