Air India Crash Points to Cockpit Confusion as Fuel Flow Cut Out

(Bloomberg) – Air India Jetliner, who fell on June 12th, was sentenced immediately after the time was removed immediately after the time was exhausted to regain the control of both engines and to regain control and prevent disaster.

A 15 -page report opened on July 11, departure in Ahmedabad and Boeing Co. It provided the first detailed account of the 32 seconds between landing just beyond the airport where 787 exploded.

The inspectors provided a sad picture of the last moments of the plane and revealed the order of the events with their stamps. However, the findings left an unanswered central question: why and by whom there were two fuel switchs in the cockpit, while the jet flew up, the plane required the most elevator as the pushing process was hungry.

In the control of the last journey of the aircraft, Boeing’s most advanced jet was the first officer Clive Kunder, a pilot with about 1,100 flight hours. While the report described it as a pilot flight, the more experienced and senior cockpit residents in the command was a pilot monitoring for Sumeet Sabharwal flight.

It is common for a captain and auxiliary pilot to change flight tasks, especially on longer journeys. Under the typical pilot protocol, a shark would command the wide body to the sky in a yoke and one would check the speed of the aircraft. The crew Captain would deal with air traffic communication and respond to Kunder’s instructions.

The Boeing 787 looked normal as he got up to a open sky in the West Indian city on his way to Gatwick Airport in London. There was no significant bird activity on the way to flight, all of them excluded a collision that could damage engines.

Later, according to a chronology put forward by Indian authorities, the two fuel keys in the central console of the aircraft were turned upside down with approximately one second.

Uncertain what triggered the maneuver, but at a critical stage of the flight, the plane disabled the plane. A fan known as RAM Air Turbine fell under the stomach of the aircraft to provide emergency power, 787 still appeared to be airport cameras.

On the ship, the pilots had a short change – the only cockpit speech mentioned in the report is just a last “Mayday” call only a few seconds before the effect.

The researchers wrote in the cockpit sound recording, one of the pilots asks why he was cut off, ”he wrote. “The other pilot said he didn’t do it.” The report did not define which of the two men asked the other about the movement.

The first switch takes about 10 seconds to return to the operating position and restore the fuel flow to the engine for about 10 seconds and 14 seconds to reopen the latter. Considering that the plane barely got up and considering that its flight is in a critical stage, this is eternity for pilots who face a life -threatening emergency just a few hundred meters above the ground and faced with life -threatening emergency.

“This is just strange, B said Bjorn Fehrm, an aviation engineer and former fighter pilot, a technical analyst with Leeham News. “I would never expect 10 seconds to wear them again. I would put them in a Jiffy.”

While both engines were relative, only the first one began to regain power before falling 787.

The order of the events was removed from different data points, including the cockpit sound and flight data recorders recovered from the debris. In the report, there is no sound from any additional stock exchange in the cockpit or on the flight deck to receive sensitive microphones.

“The most important information is the sound dialog box between the pilots and we only get one line, which is completely inadequate, Feh Fehrm said.

This leaves other important questions, including the two pilots returning to the ground and ultimately under control in these crazy last seconds. One of the men was unusual to manipulate both fuel passages and would perform very risky maneuvers.

The switches are fixed with a mechanism that requires a certain movement to shift between open and closed mode. And only the plane is on the ground or during the flight, such as motor fever, such as an extremely urgent idle.

Considering the flight orbit, after the departure, the fuel plane hunger made it almost impossible to save the plane because the jet left the ground by providing very little healing room. The Boeing 787 fell just out of the airport border that peels some trees before dived into a pension full of students.

In the report, 19 people died on the ground.

The front version implied in detail another issue to be investigated by researchers. Since 2018, the Federal Aviation Administration has marked a flight suitable for a flight, which said that some fuel control switches were installed on Boeing aircraft, including smaller 737 and 787, without joining the locking mechanisms.

Air India Jet was not controlled for this mechanism error because the issue was not compulsory. In the report, since the gas butterfly control module was replaced in 2023, no defects have been reported.

The inspectors said that they have not found any evidence to take action on the Boeing aircraft or GE aviation engines that strengthen it.

According to the report of the Aircraft Accident Research Bureau, “At this stage of this research, B787-8 and/or GE GENX-1B engine operators and manufacturers do not have a proposed process,” he said.

The National Transportation Security Board directed any question to Indian authorities. Air India said he could not comment on certain details of the investigation and cooperated with the authorities. Boeing said he continued to support the investigation and Air India and directed the questions to AAIB.

The people who carry out the probe look at the backgrounds and experiences of the pilots – a normal step for such an investigation. According to the report, Sabharwal had about 8,500 flights. Both pilots lived in Mumbai and came to Ahmedabad with “sufficient rest time” before the flight.

“Now – to some extent – we know that both engines have returned, because these fuel switches have been activated,” he said. “We don’t know why or how these keys are activated, and this will be a big part of this investigation.”

The compilation of a final report that tries to determine the cause of the incident will take months.
