Kamala Harris’ ‘HQ’ X account changes handle following widespread mockery online

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Former Vice President Kamala Harris relaunched the Kamala Headquarters social media account she used during the 2024 campaign as a “Gen Z-led progressive content hub” on Thursday, but less than a day later, the account appears to have already received another revamp.

The X account, now called “HQ”, changed its username to “@headquarters_67” on Thursday; This was likely a reference to the 6-7 meme, and he shared a video with the caption, “Welcome to HQ, the new hub for progressive content led by the new Gen Z.”

The new “67” username was met with widespread ridicule on social media, and shortly after the initial relaunch the account’s username was renamed “center68_”.

KAMALA HARRIS WARNES THAT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS ‘Staying in the Past’ WITHOUT REALLY TALKING

Fox News Digital reached out to Harris’ office to ask whether the original handle was intended as a reference to the viral meme and was changed after being mocked online, but did not immediately receive a response.

In the video embedded in the relaunch post, Harris was asked: “Mr. Vice President, what’s going on at KamalaHQ?”

“Well, I’m glad you asked. I have good news.” Harris replied. “So Kamala Headquarters is turning into ‘Headquarters,’ and that’s basically where you can go online to get the latest on what’s going on and also meet and revisit some of our great courageous leaders, whether it’s elected leaders, community leaders, civic leaders, faith leaders, youth leaders. I’m really excited about that. So stay busy and I’ll see you there. Thank you.”

In response to this video and the preview video shared the day before, many popular conservative commentators mocked this exercise as a poorly planned maneuver or argued that Harris herself would not survive.

Noting the possible “67” reference, journalist Chris Rufo wrote: “My kids told me ’67 was already old, tired and embarrassing, so Kamala falls short once again.”

“6 7.. Got it!” conservative commentator Stephen L. Miller joked.

“On behalf of all Republicans in the country: run Kamala, run!” the Republican Jewish Coalition scoffed.

While there are many conservatives who welcome the rebranding, Stefanie Feldman, who previously served as national policy director for former President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign, questioned the tactics the account used.

“Does this help Democrats win more voters or mobilize voters?” Feldman wrote on Thursday, X, which included a screenshot of the interaction.

Democratic strategist Matt Corridoni agreed with Feldman, arguing that “the quest to feel cool online prevents some candidates from behaving normally.”
