The Congress on Sunday differed from MP Shashi Tharoor’s recent comments praising senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani, with party leader Pawan Khera saying Tharoor’s views were personal and did not represent the party.

Congress leader Khera’s statement comes at a time when Tharoor wished the former Deputy Prime Minister on his 98th birth anniversary on November 8 and praised his “unwavering commitment to public service, humility and role in shaping the course of modern India”.

However, Tharoor’s demands faced some objections and people said that the Congress MP was whitewashing the real history of the BJP leader. Supreme Court Advocate Sanjay Hedge criticized Tharoor, saying Advani’s “releasing the dragon seeds of hatred” cannot be called “public service”, referring to the Ram Rath Yatra conducted in 1990.

“Sorry Mr. Tharoor, unleashing the ‘dragon seeds of hate’ (to quote Kushwant Singh) in this country is NOT a public service,” his post read. This led to an argument between the Congress MP and advocate Hegde, in which Tharoor defended the legacy of one of the BJP founders and compared the legacies of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.

“I agree @sanjayuvacha, but it is also not fair to reduce his many years of service to a single period, however significant. The integrity of Nehruji’s career cannot be judged by the disruption in China, nor Indira Gandhi’s by the Emergency alone. I believe we should extend the same courtesy to Advaniji,” he wrote about Tharoor X.
