Ernakulam District Court receives hoax bomb threat

On Thursday, the Ernakulam District Court received a threat that was later proven to be a fake bomb. It was reported that the threat was sent by e-mail to the court’s official e-mail address.
The threatening message was that five bombs would be detonated in the court complex at 14.35. It was stated that the blast was planned as part of a protest demanding implementation of the Nainar Das Police Association’s 1979 recommendations for police officers in Tamil Nadu. It has been reported recently that similar threats have been made to different institutions in the country, including courts and airports.
Although bomb squads and K9 units investigated the crowded Ernakulam court complex immediately after the police tip-off, nothing suspicious was found.
Ernakulam central police on Thursday registered a case in connection with the incident under Sections 217 (giving false information to public servants with intent to harm others) and 118(b) (deliberately spreading rumors or giving false alarm to mislead police, fire brigade or other essential services) and 120(o) (disturbing others by any means of communication) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita of the Kerala Police Act. 2011.
