A compulsory update to reduce the risk has been pushed to several phones and the devices need to be updated instead of returning.
The product software update was released on July 8, which alleviates the risk of battery management features.
All Pixel 6A devices are not affected by the problem and the new battery management system will be activated when affected devices reach 400 battery cycles.
People whose phones are affected may be entitled to receive compensation from Google and control them online to see if they can get repair, cash payment or discount loans.
The phones were sold to large retailers across the country, including Telstra, Optus, JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks and Harvey Norman.
The affected devices were sold between 16 June 2022 and 10 April 2025.
