A man has been charged with murder after his father was found dead with severe burns in the garage of his western Sydney home.
Emergency services were called to Wargon Crescent, Glenmore Park, at around 12.50am on Thursday after the body of the man, believed to be 64, was discovered.
It is believed that an accelerant was used in the incident and the front door of the house was forced open. Fire crews extinguished a small fire outside the house with a hose.
The man’s 36-year-old son was arrested in a car on Parkes Avenue, Werrington, at around 6.45am.
The person, who suffered minor injuries to his hands and feet, was treated before being taken to Nepean Hospital under police supervision. He was charged with domestic violence-related murder after being released from hospital and police refused him bail and he will appear in Penrith Local Court on Friday.
NSW Police Superintendent Trent King said the man was co-operating with police during his arrest. His car and its surroundings were being examined.
Detectives have requested CCTV or dashcam footage from around the Glenmore Park property as they continue to investigate the “distressing” scene.
“And it’s not a normal scene anyone would encounter, especially the extent of the injuries our victim sustained,” King said.
The dead man had multiple injuries as well as “severe burns”.
“There appears to be an argument between two parties,” King said.
“Until the forensic examination of the deceased is carried out, [it’s] “It is very difficult to state what the cause of death was.”
