Supreme Court to hear Uddhav Thackeray’s plea to use ‘Shiv Sena’ name, party symbol for local elections on July 14

Mr Thackerray has challenged the ECI decision and the case has been waiting for two years in the Apex court.

On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the application of Mr. Thackerray called the APEKS Court to direct ECI to allocate a different party name and symbol to the group of Bay Shinde for the elections approaching 27 municipal companies, 232 municipal councils and 125 Nagar Panchayats.

Even Mr. Kamat suggested an alternative. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) refers to how the Apex Court intervened, and allowed Ajit Pawar’s separation fraction to use the original ‘clock’ symbol, provided that they published a publicly notification. The extensive notification in the media should explain that the dispute about the allocation of ECI’s symbol to Mr. Ajit Pawar is still the lower judgment in the High Court. Senior lawyer said the court could find the same orders in the Shiv Sena case for the local establishment elections.

Mr. Shinde’s lawyer said that both Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha’s elections were made without such a change. On May 7, the Apex court refused to make a similar request from Mr. Thackerray’s camp.

The Supreme Court ordered the local organ elections to be held for years due to a reservation case for other retroaches (OBC) in Mahashtra on May 6. The upper court said that an effort should be made to conclude the elections within four months. On June 6, the Maharashtra Government instructed 27 municipal companies to start the election process by initiating the preparation of the borders of the ward.
