Davis Cup Finals: Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli take Italy closer to third straight title

“When I play for my country, I’m thinking about winning the next point, fighting really hard for my teammates, for everyone who’s here and for everyone watching from home,” Berrettini said.

“It’s the biggest privilege. It would be better if I win, but I try to enjoy being there every time. It’s something very special.”

World number 22 Cobolli followed his compatriot with a commanding 6-1 6-3 victory over Austrian number one Filip Misolic.

23-year-old Cobolli, who succeeded in reaching the quarter-finals of Wimbledon this year, dominated the first set, which lasted only 30 minutes, with three breaks of serve.

He tightened his grip on the match early in the second set, taking an early break to take a 3-0 lead and confidently coasting to victory.

Cobolli echoed his teammate’s sentiments in his post-match interview, saying: “We all want to win this cup and I felt the support from the bench, it was incredible.

“When I play for them, it’s something I can’t describe.”
