Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Foundation has announced the shortlist of cities hosting the upcoming Invictus Games 2029. The successful host city for Invictus Games 2029 will be announced in summer 2026, following a series of site visits and evaluations of each shortlisted bid.
The organization said each of the shortlisted cities aligns with the Invictus Games’ core purpose of supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of injured, injured and ill international service personnel and veterans, while also providing credible plans that will extend the impact beyond the Games. Rob Owen OBE, Chief Executive of the Invictus Games Foundation, said: “The quality, ambition and heart shown in all the bids for Invictus Games 2029 was truly inspiring. The unprecedented number of submissions demonstrates a strong foundation for the future of the Invictus Games and the collective belief in the power of the Invictus Movement.”
Three cities; Aalborg (Denmark), Daejeon (Republic of Korea) and San Diego (United States).
He continued: “Aalborg, Daejeon and San Diego have each demonstrated not only the ability to deliver extraordinary Games, but also a deep understanding of how Invictus can catalyze lasting systemic change for individuals, communities and societies.
“We are equally grateful to Italy, Nigeria and Ukraine for the extraordinary commitment behind their offers. These were all great offers, the decision was not easy and that is why we will continue our relations with each country.
“Through initiatives such as the Nigerian Armed Forces Invictus Center and the Ukraine Signature Program, we continue to focus on growing the Invictus Movement and expanding its impact far beyond a single host city.
“We now look forward to the next phase of evaluation and collaboration as we work together to identify the best home for Invictus Games 2029.”
Before the 2029 edition takes place, Birmingham will first welcome competitors when it stages the games in 2027, having previously secured hosting rights for that year’s event.
It all started during his trip to the Warrior Games in the US in 2013, when Prince Harry saw how the power of sport could physically, psychologically and socially help injured servicemen and women heal.
Harry decided that London would host the inaugural Invictus Games in 2014, an international sporting event for wounded, wounded and sick Service personnel.
Opening the games, Prince Harry said: “I have witnessed first-hand how the power of sport can positively impact the lives of wounded, wounded and sick soldiers and women on their journey to recovery.”
