Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as violence broke out outside the Opera House.

One person said: “It was peaceful and just about to end, police were in the area with a patrol car.

Then, eyewitnesses said, a group of people passing by suddenly pulled out their knives and started stabbing people sitting on the steps of the building.

“People were running in all directions; it was complete chaos,” said one eyewitness.
