Tamil Nadu CM, Cong in tacit understanding with BJP: Mamata

Bethuadahari: TMC chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday alleged that the BJP has entered into a “tacit understanding” with the Congress and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, claiming that many IAS and IPS officers from West Bengal have been sent to the southern state as poll observers, hampering development work in the state.

He claimed that despite five states going to polls at the same time, the Election Commission has transferred around 500 officers in West Bengal, while a handful of officers in other poll-bound states have been transferred.

Banerjee said that she will tour the country after the Assembly elections to strengthen opposition unity against the saffron party.

Addressing a poll rally in Nadia district in support of party candidates, the CM claimed that several officers of the West Bengal cadre were sent to Tamil Nadu as observers by the Election Commission after the Assembly polls were announced.

“You (BJP) must be in tacit agreement with the Congress and Stalin,” he alleged.
“They (BJP) are placing their own officers in important positions in West Bengal to ensure their free movement,” he alleged. The main contest in Tamil Nadu is between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), which includes the Congress, DMDK and VCK, and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with the BJP, PMK, AMMK and others allied.

Claiming that TMC will target the BJP in Delhi after winning the Assembly elections in Bengal, Banerjee said that they will take all parties with them for this purpose if necessary.

“I will tour the country to unite the opposition,” he said.

The TMC chief alleged that the voter list by which the BJP came to power in 2024 was canceled three months before the Assembly elections in West Bengal.

“You (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) should resign, Home Minister, the entire government should resign,” Banerjee said.

“Remember that if you don’t do it, people will make you do it,” he said.

Banerjee claimed that if the BJP comes to power in Bengal, it will impose restrictions on the consumption of fish, meat and eggs.

“250 people died in Bengal due to SIR exercise and you (BJP) must take responsibility for it. I am not blaming the Election Commission, they are just parrots like CBI and ED,” he said.

The Chief Minister said TMC did not support the gherao of judicial officers in Malda’s Mothabari and alleged that the BJP had benefited from the split of votes in Bihar with the help of AIMIM.

“We do not support any attack, but the police officer who arrested the mastermind has been sent to Tamil Nadu,” he claimed, referring to IPS officer Supratim Sarkar being posted as an observer.

Banerjee also questioned the citizenship process and asked why citizenship was granted to those who were in India for a short period of time, while long-term residents faced deletion from the voter lists.

“We want to see a united India,” he said.

Banerjee claimed that chief election officer Manoj Agarwal had gone to Nandigram along with BJP supporters on Sunday.

Urging voters to respond through the ballot paper, Banerjee claimed that due to her efforts, around 24 lakh names have been restored to the voter rolls.

Asserting that his government will not allow detention camps in the state, he said, “We will thwart any steps to divert people from Bengal through NRC.”

Banerjee said she will file her nomination from Bhabanipur Assembly constituency on April 8.

Claiming that most of the participants in BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s nomination rally were brought from outside the constituency, he said, “There is no one in their favour.”
