The Muslim-majority Kadayanallur electorate, which has been deprived of any major development despite being represented by a minister and influential MPs in the past, is once again desperately listening to the long list of promises made by the candidates contesting the April 23 Assembly elections.

Even independent candidates had won the Kadayanallur segment twice in 1967 and 1980, but the Congress had contested this constituency only once – in S. Peter Alphonse 2006 – in the 13th Assembly elections held in this constituency since 1967. Former Minister P. Chendur Pandian represented this constituency in 2011 and his son C. Krishnamurali in 2021, housing Important Muslim voters.
