Ted McGinley says he has stack of one-penny residual checks from TV career

Ted McGinley has become the latest celebrity to reveal the shocking amount he still receives from outstanding checks.
In a new interview with Page SixThe “Married…With Children” star, who also found fame in “Happy Days” and “Love Boat” throughout the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s, said she was holding “a stack” of checks, each worth a total of a dime.
“I always get a balance,” said McGinley, who acknowledged that the checks have gotten smaller and smaller over the years.
Although McGinley doesn’t bother to cash the small checks, he also fails to throw them away.

The actor said he probably had a check totaling $2.
McGinley isn’t the only celebrity to be open about the shocking hangovers they’ve received over the years.

During an appearance “McBride Rewind” podcastJodie Sweetin, who rose to fame as Stephanie Tanner on “Full House” for all eight seasons of the show from 1987 to 1995 and then on the spinoff series “Fuller House” from 2016 to 2020, shared the shocking amount she received from her last remaining check.

Sweetin said at the time that he “received a one-cent check the other day.”
“No more syndication because that’s all in the flow,” he continued. “Who’s paying for this? “No one is getting paid for this,” he said.

“Sure, there would be money in my 20s, but it’s not reliable,” he said. “You don’t know how much it’s going to be or how often they’re going to air the show. So sometimes you’re like, ‘Oh, great. That was nice.'” Then sometimes you say, ‘Well, there’s a nice dinner out.'”

“You kind of don’t know. So it’s not something you can trust,” Sweetin added. “I always say, people think I live an extravagant life. And I say, ‘Honey, I drive my 2023 used Hyundai Sonata, which I love. I rent my house. I have maxed out credit cards.’ I live a normal life,” she explained. “And yes, there are moments when you think, ‘This is going well,’ and there are times when you think, ‘I need a day job.'”

Bell noted that most networks pay actors residual amounts for work used after the initial broadcast, but Nickelodeon only offers actors a one-time payment.
