Teddy bear made for Queen Elizabeth’s 100th birthday recreates iconic moment with Paddington

The late Queen Elizabeth II An iconic moment from Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations has been lovingly recreated with toys, and a new Steiff bear was launched to commemorate her 100th birthday on 21 April.

Staged at Newby Hall, the scene echoes the 2022 comedy sketch, in which the Queen shares tea with the digitally animated Paddington Bear.

During the memorable short film, he famously revealed his penchant for keeping marmalade sandwiches, the Peruvian bears’ favorite treat, in his bag.

The bear wears one of the late Queen’s most recognizable ensembles: a lime green coat, complete with a matching hat, pearl necklace and handbag.

“What Her Majesty has represented over the last 100 years, as she said, was truly commitment, pride and service, and I think she has a very special place in all of our hearts,” said Ian Munro, Steiff’s international sales manager.

“And all of us at Steiff wanted to celebrate this event, where we, together with our main partner Galerista, will be launching a gorgeous collectible, limited edition style teddy bear.”

The commemorative bears are limited to just 4,996 pieces, a nod to the late Queen’s 96 years of life.

Each bear is individually numbered, priced at £289, and comes in a souvenir bag with colorful embroidery on the soles of its feet to celebrate the centenary of his birth.

Mr Munro described the first meeting between Paddington and the late Queen as “one of the most precious moments” and “one of the greatest secrets” in British life.

The draft resonated deeply with the public, with mourners leaving piles of Paddington cuddly toys and marmalade sandwiches outside Buckingham Palace following the late Queen’s passing in 2022.

Founded in 1880 by Margarete Steiff in Giengen, Germany, the Steiff company is known for the invention of the first teddy bear.

It has a long history of creating special edition bears for important events, including the Millennium and the sinking of the Titanic.
