Teenage boy injured in Birmingham shooting

A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in a shooting attack in Birmingham.
West Midlands Police said the attack happened on Bowyer Road in Alum Rock just before 5.30pm.
In a statement, police said the child was taken to hospital to be treated for a “potentially life-threatening” gunshot wound.
“Although this incident took place near a mosque, at this stage we do not believe that the attack is linked to this place of worship,” police said.
The statement said: “We understand this is extremely worrying for people in the area and local authorities will remain there to speak to anyone who has concerns.”
Investigators were still on scene Wednesday night.
Police are appealing for anyone with further information to contact or speak to Crimestoppers.
Birmingham councilor Majid Mahmood said in a statement that he was a relative of the teenager involved and was also a councilor in the neighboring district, which made “this incredibly personal”.
The Bromford and Hodge Hill councilor said: “Like many in the community, I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident at Alum Rock.”
“Thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and everyone affected during this incredibly difficult time,” he said.
Mahmood added that the family’s “sincerest request” is that people not post any photos or videos from the scene. He said anyone with footage or information should send it directly to police to assist with the investigation.
“When we come together with compassion, dignity and respect in times like these, our community becomes stronger,” he said.
