Teenager is airlifted to hospital after falling down 60ft drop at beauty spot

A teenager was airlifted to hospital after falling 20 meters at a popular beauty spot on Saturday.

The 19-year-old was found seriously injured in the Dovedale valley, near Derby, at around 2pm on Saturday afternoon.

Local ambulance and mountain rescue services were called and he was flown by helicopter to a nearby Stoke trauma unit for treatment.

No statement has been made yet about the young man’s condition.

Shortly afterwards the Derby Mountain Rescue Team (DMRT) was alerted to a report of a walker missing nearby.

A concerned caller had appealed for help after his sister went missing during a bus journey in the Peak District.

He was last seen walking up a hill but was eventually found unharmed by emergency services.

The statement made by DMRT said: ‘While the team was responding to a trauma incident in Dovedale, concerns were raised regarding a potential missing person.

A teenager who fell 20 meters in the Dovedale valley on Saturday was airlifted to hospital.

‘A member of the public reported that his sister had not returned after being last seen in Thorpe Cloud as part of a bus journey. Following the completion of the initial incident, the team was reassigned to inspect and control the surrounding area.

‘Efforts were made to contact via text and voicemail and team members checked possible locations. The missing person was later contacted and confirmed to be safe and with other members of the group in Ilam. Recommendation was given to allow the group to reconvene.’

The Daily Mail has contacted local emergency services for comment.
