Telangana Bets Big On Weekend Tourism

Hyderabad: Telangana’s tourism industry, in collaboration with the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) and National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM), is gearing up to turn weekends into an economic model.

“Hyderabad is surrounded by hundreds of resorts and adventure spots within a two-hour drive. People no longer need long holidays; they need short breaks to refresh themselves for the week ahead,” said D. Ramachandram, co-chairman of FTCCI tourism committee. In the same initiative, Telangana Tourism, along with FTCCI and NITHM, announced a conference on “Building Weekend Tourism Economy” to be held in November.

Weekend tourism covers travel within a radius of 150-250 km with destinations like Warangal, Ananthagiri Hills and Vikarabad on the map. More than 100 delegates will attend, including resort owners, operators and travel creators. “It can power the local economy every weekend,” said FTCCI president R. Ravi Kumar. “It supports local artisans, promotes healthy living and boosts rural livelihoods.”

Circuit mapping, infrastructure and digital promotion will be discussed at the conference. A reel contest will allow property owners to share one-minute videos to showcase their resorts. “Tourism needs to contribute throughout the year and not just seasonally,” Ramachandram said. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
