Telangana, Hyderabad weather to see a change soon amid extreme heatwave: IMD forecasts pre-monsoon rainfall, thunderstorms from May 28

As Telangana continues to reel under intense heatwave, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heatwave warning in 10 districts on Wednesday. As per IMD forecast, red alert (severe heat wave) has been issued in Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts as conditions are likely to prevail, The Hindu reported. Similarly, orange alert has been issued for Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Nizamabad districts.

Apart from this, warm night conditions are likely to prevail in Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Nalgonda districts. IMD has predicted pre-monsoon showers for Telangana from Thursday, May 28, 2026.

Hyderabad will experience light rain and thunderstorms

Hyderabad and surrounding areas will see partly cloudy skies for the next 24 hours, the meteorological office said. “Towards evening or night, light rain or thunderstorms are likely to occur in some parts of the city. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 41°C and 29°C respectively,” the bulletin said.

Lightning and strong winds are likely to accompany Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri. Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnoool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts.

Weather change expected in Telangana

While the state remains under the influence of heat wave, IMD stated that a change in weather conditions is expected across Telangana from Thursday. “No major change in maximum temperatures is expected for the next three days. Thereafter, a gradual decrease of 2 degrees Celsius to 3 degrees Celsius is expected during the next four days,” the IMD said in its forecast on Sunday evening.
According to the IMD forecast, pre-monsoon activity is expected to intensify across the state on Thursday, bringing light to moderate rain, thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 km per hour.

Temperatures recorded above 46C in 12 Telangana districts

Temperatures were recorded above 46°C in at least 12 districts in the state on Monday (May 25) as the intense heatwave continued across the region, according to data from the Telangana Development Planning Association.

Vemulapalle in Nalgonda emerged as the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 46.5°C. Many other districts including Pinapaka in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Dharmapuri in Jagtial, Dahegaon in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Aloor in Nizamabad and Garidepalle in Suryapet also witnessed extreme heat, all recording 46.4°C.

Temperature of 46.3°C was recorded at Enkuru in Khammam, Kannepalli in Mancherial and Anthergoan in Peddapalli. While Chigurumamidi in Karimnagar reached 46.2°C, Seerole in Mahabubabad and Wazeed in Mulugu recorded 46.1°C. 46°C was recorded at Nirmal Rural in Nirmal.

Temperatures were also reported to be between 45°C and 46°C in some areas. While Mahadevpur in Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Madnur in Kamareddy recorded 45.8°C, Sangem in Warangal touched 45.7°C. While Ichoda in Adilabad and Boinpalle in Rajanna Sircilla recorded 45.6°C, Bejjanki in Siddipet recorded 45.2°C.
