Telangana’s Kazipet Rail Manufacturing Unit to be Operational Soon: Vaishnaw
New Delhi: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday reviewed the progress of Kazipet railway manufacturing unit in Telangana and expressed satisfaction, saying that the versatile railway rolling stock manufacturing unit will soon become operational with intercity train production.
“To start with, Kazipet will produce 200 intercity trains in the next five years,” Vaishnaw said.
These trains will be deployed across the country for short-distance journeys of up to 300 km with frequent stops, officials said. Each trip will include multiple stops, allowing citizens to travel comfortably between towns and cities.
“Whether students traveling to nearby towns for higher education or ordinary people traveling for healthcare and business-related needs, these trains will offer a new and affordable option for intercity travel,” the ministry said.
“These intercity trains will operate as shuttle services connecting neighboring towns in India. With the production of these trains, a significant portion of local traffic is likely to shift from roads to railways,” he added.
Speaking about its features, officials said that intercity trains will be equipped with modern facilities such as automatic door closing systems, superior ventilation, and safe wagon design in a 20-car configuration.
“In addition, these intercity trains will have modern shock-free couplings and bogies. These trains will be designed to operate at a speed of 130 km per hour.”
The railway ministry also pointed out the unique energy efficiency features of the trains, stating that they will have regenerative braking technology. This means that when trains apply the brakes, they will generate electricity and feed the renewed power back into the grid.
“This is a greener form of transport and will lead to significantly lower carbon emissions compared to road transport,” the ministry said.
“The introduction of such a large fleet by railways will increase green and clean transport capacity across the country,” he added.
