2 arrested after U.S. Park Police officer shot in Washington, DC

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced the arrest of two people following the shooting of a U.S. Park Police (USPP) officer in southeast Washington, DC, Monday night.
Darren Foster, 21, of Southeast D.C., was arrested Monday shortly after the Monday shooting.
Asheile Foster, 22, of Southeast D.C., was arrested Tuesday.
Both suspects are charged with assaulting a federal officer with a weapon, according to the police department.
The shooting occurred around 7:30pm on Monday while the officer was investigating a USPP incident in an unmarked Tesla vehicle. FOX 5DC reported.

Two gunmen allegedly approached the officer’s car and fired multiple shots, hitting the officer in the upper body.
The officer was able to drive away before being taken to a local hospital for treatment by the USPP’s aviation unit.

U.S. Park Police confirmed the officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was later released from the hospital.
FOX 5 reported that MPD had information suggesting the suspects knew the person inside the Tesla was an officer, but no motive was released.

According to authorities, on Tuesday afternoon, a house near the scene of the shooting was raided and guns were drawn inside. A K-9 unit also responded.

The case is being investigated by detectives from MPD’s NIBIN Investigation Unit, which includes USPP detectives as well as agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
