Terrifying moment plane collides with truck on crowded New Jersey highway while landing at Newark Airport
A United Airlines passenger plane was passing over a busy highway in New Jersey as it was about to land when it collided with a bakery truck and crashed into a utility pole.
Flight UA169, which arrived in the Garden State after traveling from Venice, Italy, crashed into the vehicle as it approached Newark International Airport on Sunday.
Shocking footage has since emerged of the jet crashing into a bakery van as it glided over the New Jersey Turnpike.
What was remarkable was that the driver of the vehicle lost among the debris managed to escape without serious injury.

Paterakis said the driver went to the hospital Sunday night but suffered only minor cuts and was later released.
The plane, which arrived in New Jersey after taking off from Venice, Italy, crashed into the vehicle on Sunday afternoon.

The passenger jet was carrying 221 people and a crew of 10 when it collided with the truck just before 2 p.m.
United did not mention the truck in its statement but instead mentioned a utility pole that came into contact with the jet.

‘The aircraft landed safely, proceeded normally towards the gate and no passengers or crew were injured.
‘Our maintenance team is assessing the damage to the aircraft and we will investigate how this occurred,’ the company said.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed that the plane damaged both a tractor trailer and a utility pole.
The FAA stated that they were investigating the incident, adding: ‘United Airlines Flight 169 crashed into a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike at approximately 2 p.m. while approaching to land at Newark Liberty International Airport. The Boeing 767 landed safely and was en route from Venice, Italy.’
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed that the plane damaged both the tractor trailer and the utility pole, and the driver was later released from the hospital.
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill said in a statement: ‘I have been notified of the incident involving United Flight 169 at Newark Liberty International Airport.
I am grateful that the plane landed safely and that all passengers and crew were unharmed. Initial reports indicate that a truck on the Turnpike may have been involved, and we will continue to monitor developments. United are investigating how this happened.’
