Tesco opens new store in UK market town – around 20 jobs created | UK | News
A brand new Tesco store is opening in the English county famous for its lack of motorways. The new Tesco Express retail store will welcome customers to Brandon Road Shopping Centre, just south of the beautiful town of Swaffham in Norfolk.
Developer Redleaf has secured the supermarket giant for 9,150 square meters of new development at Cygnet Rise, close to the town which is home to around 8,500 people. The new shopping center will house 36 parking spaces and be part of the development of 160 new homes.
A Tesco Express usually employs 15 to 25 people.
Redleaf founder Paul Bishton told local media he was “very proud” of the project.
he said Eastern Daily Press: “We really pushed the boat design-wise and Warwick Burt did a fantastic job during the build,” he said.
“It’s great to see Tesco trading and we can’t wait to bring more great brands to the centre, with Esquires set to launch soon.”
Paul LeGrice, managing director of Abel Homes, said of the new residential development linked to the retail site: “We are very excited about Cygnet Rise because we are not just building new homes here, we are creating a completely new community at the south end of Swaffham.
“As a locally based housebuilder, we recognize that we are not just about bricks and mortar, we are about building communities where people can live. That is why we have put forward plans for this site, which include much-needed accommodation for older people, affordable homes and retail units to create a true local centre.”
Speaking about the opening of the new store earlier this year, Tesco Swaffham Express store manager Ashley Stolworthy said: Building Design and Construction magazine: “We are delighted that the fit-out of our new Swaffham Express store has begun and we look forward to it opening in the coming weeks. As well as offering customers a wide range of food, drink and bakery options, the store will also have on-site parking and an ATM.
“We are also committed to supporting the local community through the Tesco Community Food Link programme, which redistributes excess food from every Tesco store to charities and community groups at the end of each day.”
