Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) in Houston agreed to stop administering puberty blockers to children, pay a $10 million fine, and open a “conversion clinic” following an extensive investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the state of Texas.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wrote in a statement Friday that the ruling caps a years-long investigation by Texas’ Healthcare Program Enforcement Division, which concluded that TCH fraudulently billed Texas Medicaid for “impermissible and illegal ‘gender transition’ interventions.”
“Under the terms of this landmark agreement, Texas Children’s will establish the first multidisciplinary clinic designed to provide medical care to patients undergoing ‘gender transition’ procedures,” Paxton wrote.
“This Detransition Clinic will help reverse the damage caused by ideologically motivated doctors who harm patients by performing dangerous medical interventions in an attempt to ‘transition’ them,” Paxton’s statement continued.

According to Paxton, all services provided through the transition clinic will be funded by Texas Children’s and will be provided free to patients for the first five years of the clinic.
He also revealed that the agreement instructed TCH to fire five “woke” doctors who performed gender reassignment surgery on children.
Paxton added in a statement: “Today is a monumental day in the fight to stop the radical transgender movement. This historic solution reflects an institutional and fundamental cultural shift away from radical ‘gender’ ideology. In addition to helping establish the first Transition Clinic and securing millions, this agreement will ensure that the deranged child mutilators who harm our children are fired and held accountable.” Paxton added.

“I applaud Texas Children’s Hospital for changing course and committing to be part of the solution by agreeing to establish a first-of-its-kind Transition Clinic that will help provide free care to those who are victims of the perverted, morally bankrupt transgender ideology. Under my watch, I will investigate and apply the full force of the law to any Texas hospital that exploits children with harmful medical interventions for ‘transition’ children.”
Texas Children’s Hospital, meanwhile, in a statement called controversy over its gender-affirming care program “an unconscionable campaign of false facts and mischaracterizations.”

“Today, we made the difficult decision to agree with the Texas Attorney General and Department of Justice and close a chapter filled with lies and distractions. To be clear, we are deciding to preserve our resources from endless and costly litigation. This agreement will allow us to focus these valuable resources on the lifesaving care and groundbreaking discoveries of our extraordinary clinicians and scientists,” the hospital said in a statement Friday. he wrote, and was later deleted from the website.

Prominent pro-trans activists criticized the move.
“Just complete the chickens — stuff by the general counsel and administrator of Texas Children’s,” wrote prominent transgender civil rights attorney Alejandra Caraballo in a post on the social media network Bluesky.

But transit opponent Chloe Cole praised the decision in her own social media post. “What an incredible moment for the movement to end child mutilation,” Cole wrote on X. “Texas will be home to the first clinic to help victims of these barbaric procedures return to normal.”
