Texas Man Accused of Killing Wife Less Than a Month After Wedding

A Texas man is accused of killing his wife less than a month after their wedding, allegedly telling police he “had to do it.”

Police were called to the home at around 4.40am following reports of a disturbance at the property.
“Someone who called 911 said he could hear someone yelling for help and could hear the sound of wood being broken inside the apartment,” according to the affidavit.
When they arrived, police found Rangel “in a pool of blood,” not breathing and with a wound to his throat, according to the affidavit.
Officers located Mendez-Marin, who was covered in blood and had scratches on his arms, throat and chest, walking down the stairs after leaving the apartment, authorities said. A second male was found in the apartment.

According to court records, Mendez-Marin was carrying a “bloody pocket knife” and a razor in his pants pocket. He was arrested at the scene and taken to the Dallas County Jail, where he is currently being held without bail, according to jail records reviewed by Oxygen.com.
Mendez-Marin was allegedly captured on body camera footage at the scene telling officers in Spanish, “I had to do this,” and insisting he “didn’t do anything bad,” according to the affidavit obtained by the news outlet.
According to testimony, police believe Mendez-Marin killed his new bride during a domestic dispute that turned deadly.
Investigators also found a marriage certificate at the home showing the couple got married on Feb. 26, according to the affidavit.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office listed the 20-year-old’s death as a homicide, based on records reviewed. Oxygen.com.
