Woman arrested after two young children die in Wolverhampton house fire

A woman has been arrested following a house fire in Wolverhampton on Friday that killed two young children.

It was announced that two boys, aged one and three, lost their lives in the fatal house fire that broke out on Mason Street at around 20.30 yesterday evening.

The woman, in her 30s, remains in custody as investigations into the fire continue and the boy’s family is being supported by West Midlands Police officers.

Police are working with the fire department to determine the exact circumstances of the fire.

Security cameras in the area are being taken and examined and police officers are conducting door-to-door investigations.

Authorities stated that the cordon at the scene will remain in place for a while and thanked the residents of the area for their understanding.

Detective Chief Inspector Kylie Westlake, of West Midlands Police’s public protection unit, said: “This is a truly tragic incident and our thoughts remain with those who love the missing children.

“We understand the shock and distress this horrific incident will cause many people and we are working rapidly to establish exactly what happened.

“Officers arrested a woman on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of two children.

“Whilst we would ask people not to speculate about this or the wider incident, we would urge anyone who may be able to assist our investigations and who has not yet spoken to us to get in touch.”
