18 Lakh Govt School Students Receive Report Cards via WhatsApp

Hyderabad: Parents of government school students started receiving their children’s annual report cards directly on WhatsApp as the government launched a large-scale digital distribution covering classes V to IX and reaching over 18 lakh students.
The report cards, sent through Mee Seva under the IT, electronics and communications department, include subject-wise grades and attendance details, eliminating the need for parents to visit schools for results. A sample progress card shows student information, school details, grades on formative and summative assessments, co-curricular assessment, attendance record and promotion status.
IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said that the decision to send report cards via WhatsApp was taken “to reach every student and parent with technological services”. He added that the system saves families time and money and provides instant access to academic records in a secure, paperless format.
Since the entire process remains digital, parents will be able to access records without setting foot in schools, officials said. Cards created by the system can also be physically taken from schools if needed.
