Droupadi Murmu to become first President to address Odisha Assembly

President Droupadi Murmu will deliver an important speech in the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Thursday, November 27, 2025, the first day of the Winter Session.

This will be the first event where the President will address members of the Odisha Assembly. Detailed arrangements were made with all MLAs requested to be present for the address.

“This is a great honor for us as the first citizen of the country will share his experiences and insights with the legislators. He brings with him rich experiences of working as a legislator, Minister, governor and President,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling said.

Mr Mahaling said Ms Murmu would be greeted with ceremony when she entered the house.

Besides Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Speaker Surama Padhy and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik are also likely to be there to welcome Ms. Murmu.

The State Assembly made special efforts to commemorate Ms. Murmu’s tenure as MLA and Minister by decorating the chamber where she used to sit. He will most likely visit the room.

Ms. Murmu was first elected to the Odisha Assembly in 2000. He joined the Cabinet under Mr. Patnaik’s Chief Minister. He was re-elected to the parliament in 2004.
