Teachers to plead not guilty to assaulting school boys

The principal of a NSW school and a group of teachers will fight accusations they assaulted three primary school children.

Lawyers representing the four educators told Queanbeyan Local Court on Tuesday that their clients had pleaded not guilty.

Police allege that between January 2024 and December 2025, boys aged 9, 10 and 11 were attacked at their school in Queanbeyan.

The school’s principal, who cannot be named for legal reasons, as well as a 65-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, were also charged with one count of common assault.

Another man, 46, faces three counts of assault.

None of the four teachers currently work at the school and they did not attend the first hearing.

The case will return to court in early June.

Detectives began an investigation in November with the assistance of Department of Community Justice and Education officers.

This led to four staff members being charged by the police.

The education department had previously said in a statement that although the exact nature of the attacks was unknown, the allegations were extremely worrying.

“This type of behavior is unacceptable in any school,” a spokesman said.
