The train station home to UK’s longest platform that takes 10 minutes to walk along | UK | News

A railway station in Essex is home to the country’s longest platform, and it takes around 10 minutes to walk from one end to the other. According to British train management Cross Country Trains‘ The platform at Colchester Railway Station stretches a whopping 620 metres, the website says.
A person’s typical walking speed is about 5 km/h, which means it will take eight to 10 minutes to go from one end to the other. According to Greater Anglia, the station features a redesigned Victorian Ticket Office with a modern interior, while the other half of the station features a ticket hall built in the 1970s.
As well as the two-bay platform, some stations have six platforms, including a stable area, which is an area where trains are parked when not running.
The station is mostly served by Greater Anglia, connecting Norwich to Colchester and London to Colchester.
However, railway enthusiasts will know that Colchester cannot claim to have the longest continuous platform in the UK, as it is split into two sections.
This title belongs to Gloucester railway station, which has a 602-metre continuous platform next to the track. Its length is said to be equivalent to approximately 32 cars.
However, trains in the UK have fewer than 12 carriages; This means Gloucester’s platform can easily fit two trains back to back.
The platform was extended in 1977 as part of restructuring by British Rail to accommodate two InterCity 125 trains at the same time.
But the station itself is relatively small compared to the country’s most important transport hubs, with three railway lines, a car park and a cafe. According to TheTrainLine, the station is mostly served by GWR, CrossCountry and Transport for Wales trains.
