Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan Elected Kerala Assembly Speaker

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan was elected as the 25th Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Friday.
After the election, Chief Minister VD Satheesan and Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan accompanied him to the Speaker’s seat. Radhakrishnan, representing Kottayam constituency, got 101 votes. In comparison, LDF candidate AC Moideen got 35 votes, while BJP’s BB Gopakumar got three votes; This marks the first time that the BJP has contested the Speaker election in the state.
Radhakrishnan, 74, assumes the post with more than five decades of experience in politics and more than three decades of parliamentary experience, and also served as Home Minister in the Oommen Chandy government.

The Governor’s policy speech will be given on May 29, and the Vice Presidential election will be held on June 1.
