Three dead after shooting at Bite of Seattle food festival

Three people were killed and many more Others were injured following a shooting at a food festival near Seattle’s Space Needle on Sunday, the city fire department said.

Mayor Katie Wilson said that a suspect was detained after shots were opened at around 18:00 local time at Seattle Center, which hosts the annual Bite of Seattle food festival over the weekend.

Seattle Police Deputy Chief Tyrone Davis added that a second suspect fled the scene and has not yet been captured. The suspects are believed to have been shooting at each other.

It was stated that two people died at the scene and one person died in the hospital where he was taken. Authorities said a 2-year-old child was among those injured.

Videos shared online show people taking shelter in the city’s iconic Space Needle.

During the conflict, people were seen crouching on the ground, hiding behind pillars and merchandise shelves in the Space Needle’s lobby.

The Seattle Police Department said the investigation was ongoing and urged the public to avoid the area.

Wilson said in a statement that he “wanted to thank the Seattle police officers who responded to the scene and took a suspect into custody.”

He had initially stated that two suspects had been detained before updating his statement later Sunday evening.

The fire department said four of the injured were taken to the hospital in stable condition, while the fifth chose not to do so.
