Modi Announces ₹2 Lakh Ex-gratia for Kin of Jaisalmer Bus Fire Victims

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of life in the Jaisalmer bus fire incident, which claimed at least 20 lives, and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh per person for the next of kin of the deceased.

At least 20 people died and many others were injured when a Jodhpur-bound private bus caught fire near Thaiyat village in Jaisalmer on Tuesday.

According to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the accident site and expressed grief over the tragedy.

Meanwhile, Jodhpur Police Commissioner Om Prakash Paswan said, “16 injured people were brought here from Jaisalmer. 15 injured are receiving treatment at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital and one injured is receiving treatment at Shri Ram Hospital.”

According to Jaisalmer Additional SP Kailash Dhan, the bus, which was leaving Jaisalmer for Jodhpur around 3 pm, suddenly caught fire near Thaiyat village after smoke was coming out from its rear.

The official said, “The moving bus was engulfed in flames. It was reported that there were injuries. The injured were taken to the hospital. Rescue efforts continue.”
