When a drinker says “This is the best bar in the world” on a night out, it’s often taken with a grain of salt – but now an official ranking has revealed the top global drinking destinations.
Top 500 Bars, an online ranking site that does exactly what it says on the tin, uses a complex algorithm to analyze “thousands of data points” in more than 20 languages to deliver a definitive list of the world’s best entertainment venues, the Daily Mail reports.
UK bar named world’s best as Europe dominates top 10
In a major coup for Britain, the coveted top spot went to the UK bar with an impressive six of the European top 10.
From the glitz and glamor of Hollywood to the minimalist chic of Korea, the top 10 spans the globe; But the home of the world number one is the capital of Scotland.
1. Panda and His Sons (Edinburgh, Scotland)
The top spot went to Scottish cocktail bar Panda & Sons, with an average rating of 4.6 stars based on more than 2,400 Google reviews.
The bar is all about “friendly Scottish service in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere,” according to the rankings.
Panda & Sons is the brainchild of renowned Scottish bartender Iain McPherson.
Their cocktail menus offer exciting drinks using the latest techniques, including their own called “Switching”.
“Switching” involves separating water from alcoholic beverages and replacing it with another non-alcoholic liquid.
2. Paradiso (Barcelona, Spain)
Coming in second place with nearly 7,000 Google reviews and an average rating of 4.3 stars, Paradiso in Barcelona, Spain, is a “speakeasy-style bar” located behind the Pastrami Bar, which you enter through an old refrigerator.
3. Bar Leone (Hong Kong, China)
Located in the heart of Hong Kong, Bar Leone is an Italian-inspired venue that pays homage to Roman neighborhood bars.
Founded by Roman bartender Lorenzo Antinori, Bar Leone is a bar that celebrates community and love of classic cocktails.
7. Tayēr + Primary School (London, United Kingdom)
Tayēr + Elementary, London’s first entry into the list, came in seventh place.
The cocktail bar near Bartholomew Square was opened in June 2019 by celebrity bartenders Monica Berg and Alex Kretena.
Tayer+Elementary is divided into two different bar concepts. Located at the bar front, Elementary is a light and casual bar focused on serving simple seasonal drinks and snacks. Tayer is a more progressive and experimental bar with higher offerings.
8. Alquimico (Cartagena, Colombia)
Alquímico in Cartagena, Colombia is divided into three floors, each with a different concept.
Cocktails featuring local ingredients are served, accompanied by music provided by DJs playing modern blends of eclectic sounds.
9. Moebius (Milan, Italy)
With more than 1,500 Google reviews and an average rating of 4.5 stars, Moebius in Milan takes its place in the top 10.
The ranking defines Moebius as “a sharing space where cuisine, music and hospitality are inextricably intertwined.”
10. SIPS (Barcelona, Spain)
SIPS in Barcelona is “poised to redefine Barcelona’s bar scene by blurring the lines between haute couture and pret-a-porter”, ranked tenth, according to Top 500 Bars.
Owned by internationally renowned mixologists Simone Caporale and Marc Alvarez, the bar is known for its innovative approach that combines high-end artistry with accessibility.
The bar is described as “a disruptive cocktail experience that evolves with every sip.”
